Worship Leader
 
Position Description

Summary
The Contemporary Service Worship Leader is responsible for planning, preparing, and managing the intergenerational, musical component of the weekly contemporary worship service. They will lead the worship team/band and the congregation, proclaiming the Gospel through authentic worship at Friedens (Peace) Lutheran Church. This position partners with the Pastor and the Church Administrator.
 

Responsibilities

  • Direct/lead Contemporary worship services which consists of 1 to 2 opening songs, an offertory selection, a communion selection, and a closing song. This format can change as needed.

  • Prepare music for Contemporary Services: select music specific to the day’s texts, coordinating content with the Pastor and Administrator, preparing lyric PowerPoint presentations as needed.

  • Organize Worship musicians and vocalists:  select and mentor band/praise members as needed; lead rehearsals; coach vocalists and instrumentalists.

  • Participate in other worship opportunities (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, etc.) to include Church Holidays and Traditional or combined services.

  • Bear witness to the principal tenets of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).

  • Articulate a vision: stay abreast of contemporary worship songs and trends, regularly forward specific, measurable, realistic growth tactics that align with Friedens’ strategic vision.
     

Qualifications and Experience

  • Eagerness to share the Gospel and a heart for witnessing to/reflecting the love and light of Christ.

  • Demonstrated musicianship, with a genuine appreciation for contemporary music.

  • 5+ years’ experience Leading Contemporary Christian Worship - leading vocally or playing an instrument with preference given to someone who can do both.

  • Ability to coach/teach others: vocally (voice coaching, teaching modulation, harmonies, etc.), in musicianship (group interaction and dynamics, tempo, modulation, etc.), and with stage presence.

  • Ability to organize and communicate the planning, preparing, and leading of worship services.

  • Demonstrated experience leading, organizing, and/or directing others. Preference given to worship team leaders.
     

Requirements

  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Certification.

  • Two references (one that attests to musicianship, and one non-family character reference).

  • Auditioning in-person and/or through the submission of a taped performance.
